An Astrological Glance at Ben Affleck

Ben Affleck was already a veteran actor by the time he gained national attention in Good Will Hunting in 1997, so it’s not surprising that his horoscope is loaded with references to acting. First of all we have his show-off Leo Sun sign. Then we have Venus close to his Ascendant, indicative both of a winning personality and good looks. Finally, that prominent Venus forms a nice trine to his Moon in the 5th House, the sector of the horoscope most often associated with the theater and entertainment. With this in mind, it’s not surprising that Affleck has shown up as the leading man is so many movies over the past few years. Even though many of those movies were flops as far as the critics were concerned, most ended up making serious money, proof that Affleck is eminently watchable regardless of the vehicle.

But Affleck has shown himself to be much more that a pretty face. The Oscar he won for Good Will Hunting was for co-writing the script (natal Sun in the 3rd House of communication) and he has continued his work as a scriptwriter. Recently, it has been his talent as a director that has heads turning, particular with his most recent projects: The Town, Gone Baby Gone and Argo.

The closest aspect to Affleck’s Leo Sun is a sextile to Saturn. He is a serious guy who has the ability to focus and make practical use of his Leo energy and zeal. Also, even though his Moon is in the frivolous 5th House, it is in Scorpio, a sign that is anything but frivolous. This adds weight to Affleck’s personality and makes him more cautious and self-aware.

The most stressful aspect in Affleck’s horoscope is a square between his Mars in Virgo and Neptune. Hard aspects to Neptune often coincide with addictive behavior.  Affleck entered rehab several years ago to deal with his problems with alcohol. The fact that Mars also forms a semi-sextile to Pluto is the reason why he did this before his addiction had reached a critical point. Of course, Neptune problems never completely go away so the possibility of a relapse is always there.

I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of Ben Affleck in the coming years. His next Saturn passage is not until 2016 when Saturn opposes its natal place, but before that (around 2015) his secondary progressed Venus will be moving close to his Sun. This should be a particularly bright and happy period in both his personal and his professional life.  For this multitalented actor, the best is yet to come.
