Arnold Schwarzenegger has been making the rounds on talk shows and through other media promoting his new memoir and, in the process, confessing to his past sins. The process whereby celebrities sin and then use the confession of those sins to further market themselves is not new but I thought it would be interesting to look at the astrology of Schwarzenegger’s confession.
First of all, Schwarzenegger is a Leo by Sun Sign with Mercury on his Ascendant and Venus in his 1st House. Not only does he like talking about himself, he can do it with both charm and wit. His Capricorn Moon also plays a part in this. Guilt is a natural condition for Capricorn and people with the Moon in Capricorn prone to beating themselves up. Of course, it is Schwarzenegger’s affair with his housekeeper and the dissolution of his storybook marriage to Maria Shriver that gets most of the attention. His oft repeated remorse for the affair is certainly sincere. Schwarzenegger has Venus in Cancer, a Venus sign that values devotion and domesticity in relationships. In my last article I talked about one of the aspects that Mitt Romney is dealing with as the election nears. Now let’s consider one of the aspects that currently influence the horoscope of Barack Obama: in particular, the square of his secondary progressed Mars to his natal Saturn.
This is a troublesome aspect describing a period of hard work, frustrated ambitions and tough breaks. Since Saturn is in the 12th House (the house of secret enemies and hospitalization) and Mars in at the outer edge of the 8th House (often associated with death) the aspect also hints at a threat his Obama’s physical well-being. Thus far, we can see the manifestation of this hard luck aspect in Obama’s struggle to sell his presidency in the midst of a poor economy and high unemployment. It is certainly not an easy task. We can also see this Mars to Saturn influence in the decision of the Obama camp to launch an early and aggressively negative campaign against his opponent, Mitt Romney. When you bring Saturn and Mars together in a hard aspect you get a hard-nosed, militant, take-no-prisoners attitude. Many have been critical of Obama’s negative ads but he offers no apologies.
One of the problems with trying to predict the future with astrology is that not everyone reacts to astrological influences in the same way. A stressful aspect that might overwhelm one person could inspire another to work harder. A positive aspect that could represent a golden opportunity for one individual could become a wasted opportunity for another. And when the aspects are mixed, some people managed to accent the positive while others continually stumble over the negative.
As we near Election Day, both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are dealing with a wide variety of transiting and secondary progressed aspects. In an era in which sexualized images are pitched at us from every direction, it’s hard to believe that the sight of one woman’s bare bosom could garner more than a passing glance. But people always will strain to see whatever it is that they are not supposed to see and, apparently, the breasts of the Duchess of Cambridge (otherwise known as Kate Middleton) fit into that category.
Astrologically, the flap over the photos taken of Middleton while she and her husband were sunbathing in France provides us with a good example of how different factors in the natal horoscope can conflict with one another. And yet, she has Venus in Aquarius, a sign that is much more inclined to take risks and delight in the unconventional.
