It’s hard to know whether to pity Lamar Odom or envy him. He started out a poor child with an absentee, drug addicted dad and a mother who died when he was 12. Since then he has been beset with a variety of problems, often involving drugs and death. On the other hand, he is gifted with extraordinary athletic skills that have made his star in the NBA and he’s married to a Kardashian. Odom’s life has certainly had its highs and lows. Right now, he seems to be at a low point.
We do not have a time of birth for Odom. (Click here to see his horoscope charted for noon.) That’s always a limitation but in this case, it is particularly problematic. One of the most important aspects in the noon chart is an opposition between Neptune and the Moon. However, since the Moon moves about twelve degrees a day, we can’t sure how this aspect will appear in his real horoscope. If he was born before 10 AM it would be two wide to be effective.
Regardless of the placement of his Moon, Neptune is certainly playing a major role in Odom’s horoscope at the present time. Transiting Neptune (Neptune in the sky at this moment) has been moving back and forth between square aspects to Odom’s natal Venus and his natal Mercury since early in 2012.
A few weeks ago I wrote about Miley Cyrus (click here to see the previous article) and noted that Uranus was square her natal Venus. I predicted that this aspect might lead to some questionable decision-making and, guess what, it has.
Cyrus’ performance at last Sunday’s Video Music Awards ceremony had Venus square Uranus written all over it. It was sexy (Venus) and it was controversial (Uranus). It was also a calculated act of rebellion against her previous image as a Disney branded All-American girl (Uranus again).
Are there certain people, with certain horoscopes who are destined to do bad things? This is a question that often comes up when people talk about astrology. I’m of the school of astrologers that answers that question with an emphatic “No”. Our fate is our character and we build our character through our choices. The horoscope shows us the qualities and circumstance from which we have to choose, and sometimes it reveals a range of choices that is severely limited. But it is still up to us to make the best of it.
This is one reason why I was so happy to find Derf Backderf’s graphic novel, My Friend Dahmer. John “Derf” Backderf is an award winning cartoonist and illustrator. He also went to the same high school as Jeffrey Dahmer and, for a time, counted Dahmer among his circle of friends. His book is a compelling look back at those years. It is expertly paced, superbly illustrated (I’ve taken the liberty of using one panel to illustrate this article) and written with both compassion and a dose moral outrage. It also gives a unique view of the off-beat teenager who became Jeffrey Dahmer.
Dahmer is one of the most repugnant serial killers of all time. There are still people (such as my wife) who cringe at just the sound of his name. Derfback’s book makes no excuses for Jeffrey Dahmer, but it allows us to see this human being as what he was before he became a monster, as just another confused and lonely boy struggling to master the darker side of his nature.
It used to be good to be Alex Rodriguez. You were a big name baseball player playing with the most high-profile team in the world (the New York Yankees). You made lots of money (275 million over 10 years). You dated Hollywood stars (Kate Hudson,Cameron Diaz) and everyone (except Red Sox fans) seemed to love you.
Now, it’s not so good to be Alex Rodriquez. Now you’re fighting a suspension that could end your career, the management of your team won’t talk to you because of a possible law suit and when a Boston Red Sox pitcher intentionally hits you with a pitch, your own teammates don’t even bat an eye. Apparently no one loves Alex Rodriguez right now. So what happened?
We don’t have a birth time for Alex Rodriguez, (click here to see the noon chart) but his secondary progressions tell the story. In Jan. 2013, when the allegations were first made linking A-Rod to the Biogenesis Clinic that dispensed performance enhancing drugs to players, Rodriguez’s secondary progressed Sun was conjunct his natal Venus and square his natal Neptune. By itself, the Venus aspect would be positive, but the square to Neptune describes self-indulgence and scandal.
