The drama I was expecting from the New Moon chart for Aug. 27 didn’t arrive until very late in the lunation period. (Click here to see the article and the chart.) Even though Queen Elizabeth was not a figure of political authority for people in the United States, she was a figure of moral authority around the world and her death was the kind of Uranian surprise that the New Moon chart predicted.
The other big surprise that came out that chart was the ruling by a federal judges ordering a “special master” to review the evidence taken from Mar-o-Lago by the FBI. The order also put a temporary hold on the examination of this material. The ruling was certainly important. It represents a victory for team Trump and adds more complications to this complicated affair. It was also, according to many legal experts, surprising.
The placement of Uranus in the Full Moon chart for Sept. 10 seems more benign. (Click on New Moon to see the chart.) It is in the Ninth Housesextile the Moon and trine the Sun. This could refer to breakthrough involving publications or information technology or maybe something coming out the American court system with which we all can agree. Wouldn’t that be a first?
The research project in which I am currently engaged has reminded me of the power of the Qualities or Modes in astrology. The Qualities are a way dividing up the twelve signs of the horoscope. There are three Qualities — Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable — and each of them is attributed to four signs. The Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. The Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius. The Mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces.
We tend to think of the Qualities in the same context as the Element (Fire, Earth, Air and Water) which are the other way we divide up the twelve signs. However, the Elements have more to do with personality traits. To put it in very simple term, Fire sign people are fiery, Earth sign people are earth, Air sign people tend to have their heads in the clouds and Water sign people are awash in their emotions. The Qualities, on the other hand, have to do with the way in which we conduct our lives. In order to pick out a person with an strong emphasis of one of the Qualities in their horoscope you typically have to look at their actions over a span of years.
The Full Moon chart for Aug. 11 revealed a great deal of tension but, with Neptune on the Ascendant and the Sun and Moon in the Sixth/Twelfth House axis, I felt that much of this tension would be hidden from the public. (Click here to see the article and the chart.)This was certainly the case with the documents taken from Mar-o-largo last month. The FBI was forced to release the search warrant for that raid, but after information deemed sensitive was redacted from the document, reading it is a bit like reading tea leaves.
Neptune on the Ascendant also had a little fun with us or, at least, with a few members of Congress. When some Republican members went on social media characterizing the forgiveness of certain student loans ordered by President Biden as a gift to the “elites” at the expense of the working class, the White House responded with messages showing how many these same Representatives had five, six and, in a couple of cases, seven figure loans forgiven by the government during the pandemic. Neptune obscures and dissembles, but it also has a wicked sense of humor.
Unfortunately, there’s not much evidence of that sense of humor in the New Moon chart for Aug. 27. (Click on New Moon to see the chart.) It is also an intense horoscope but none of that intensity is going to be hidden. In fact, it may be all too visible.
The twelve signs of the zodiac are divided into three different qualities or modes: Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable. If you’re looking for a one word summation of these three qualities a good one would be: Cardinal = Action, Mutable = Fluidity and Fixed = Principles.
With the Sun and Mercury in Leo and Taurus Rising, Liz Cheney has a strong Fixed Sign signature. (Click on Liz Cheney to see the chart.) Fixed sign people aren’t necessarily stubborn. They can be quite loosey-goosey about many things. But when you start talking about their core principles and values you’re going to always hit a stone wall. Fixed Sign people typically form these basic principles early in their lives and stick to them regardless of changes in circumstance or public opinion.
Getting a Fixed Sign person to alter their principles generally requires something big, something devastating and traumatic. For Liz Cheney that traumatic event came on Jan. 6, 2021. It should come as no surprise that on that day transiting Uranus was at six degrees of Taurus, directly on her Taurus Ascendant. Changing long-held, entrenched opinions and methods is, more or less, what Uranus is all about. The events of Jan. 6 did this for a lot of Americans but it was especially disruptive to the Fixed mind set of Liz Cheney.
