I had thought that Uranus on the Ascendant of the New Moon chart for Sept. 14 (click here to see the article and the chart) would bring us news regarding technology. Instead, except for the lawsuit filed by several famous authors against the creators of ChatGPT, it was issues regarding Pluto on the Midheaven of that chart that dominated.
Pluto on the Midheaven has to do with the exercise of power. We saw this in a couple of labor actions. First there was a strike by auto workers and then a tentative settlement in the actors and writers strike. However, when it comes to the use and abuse of power, you can’t beat Washington, D.C. There we had the indictment of Hunter Biden, the beginning of an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden and, most worrisome of all, the looming possibility of a government shutdown.
It's fair to say that the New Moon chart for Sept. 14 brought us a lot of drama, but none of it was conclusive. That’s where the Full Moon chart for Sept. 29 is different. (Click on Full Moon to see the chart.) In this chart we have the Sun and Moon in angular houses (the First and the Seventh) and that typically means that, for better of worse, matters will come to a conclusion.
Earlier this year I warned that things were going to get tense for Joe Biden in the latter part of 2023. This was because transiting Uranus was make a long opposition aspect to his natal Mercury during this period. Well, here we are in the latter part of 2023 and President Biden is facing a possible government shutdown, an impeachment inquiry and the indictment of his son by federal prosecutors. That sounds pretty tense to me.
Uranus transits are always difficult to predict. Uranus disrupts the status quo. Sometimes those disruptions can be surprisingly beneficial, and other times they can be shockingly destructive. The first pass of this aspect in Biden’s chart seemed to fall in the former category. This happened in June 2023, Biden made a deal with House Republicans that raised the debt limit so that the government could continue to function and his son, Hunter, was offered a plea deal with prosecutors that seemed to resolve his multiple legal problems.
Then, at the end of August, Uranus turned retrograde and that status quo began to fall apart. With the 2024 electing getting closer, hardline Republicans in the House began looking kinks in Biden’s armor. They seem to think that a government shutdown and/or an impeachment trial would do the trick. Having his son thrown in prison would be nice addition. This sort of “go-for-broke" thinking is, of course, very much in keeping with Uranus and the planet’s opposition to President Biden’s natal Mercury.
We don’t have a time of birth for Hunter Biden so there much that we can’t see. (Click on Hunter Biden to a chart done for noon on his date of birth.) However, even without a complete horoscope it appears that this Biden is also dealing with a Uranus transit. Uranus is currently close to making a trine to Hunter’s natal Mercury, which is either at 19 or 20 degrees of Capricorn. (Uranus could also be trine his natal Moon but that can’t be determined without a time of birth.)
I felt that the Full Moon chart for Aug. 30 had a friendly vibe (click here to see the article and the chart) and, aside from the hurricane that raked across northern Florida early in the lunation period, it has been a relatively peaceful two weeks for the United States, until Tuesday. That’s when Kevin McCarthy announced that he was starting an impeachment inquiry against President Biden. That was definitely an unfriendly act, but one so enmeshed in partisan politics that it’s difficult to determine it significance.
Another interesting development was the recent polls showing Joe Biden and Donald Trump virtually tied in a prospective race for the presidency in 2024. Given Trump’s massive legal problems, this surprised a lot of people. I see it as a product of the configuration of Pluto, Neptune and Uranus in the last several lunation charts. The easy connections between these three heavy hitters describes a quiet, and somewhat ominous, status quo. What this poll is telling us is that the mood of the American people is still stuck at what it was in Nov. 2020. Trump still has control of the Republican Party and Democrats and independents are not all that jazzed about Joe Biden.
In the New Moon chart for Sept. 14 that triple connection between Pluto, Neptune and Uranus is broken up. (Click on New Moonto see the chart.) Uranus has moved away from its trine to Pluto and sextile to Neptune. (The configuration will return in 2024, however.) Other than that, at least at first glance, the New Moon chart looks very much like the Aug. 30 lunation. Once again the Fifth House is emphasized with the Sun and Moon placed there. This brings to mind the actors and writer strike once again. The fact that Uranus is trine the Sun and Moon does seem to indicate activity in that matter, but the opposition of Neptune to the Sun and Moon argues against anything definitive.
We don’t know the time of birth of Senator Mitch McConnell which makes his actual horoscope something of a mystery. (Click here to a chart done for noon on McConnell’s date of birth.) However, we do know the placement of his natal Sun in Pisces (within a degree or so). We also know that Saturn has just entered Pisces and that it aligned with McConnell’s natal Sun in March 2023.
That conjunction coincided with McConnell falling down in the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C. He had had previous falls but this one was particularly worrisome because he hit his head and required hospitalization. It seemed that McConnell had fully recovered from this accident but Saturn aspects to the Sun always represent a test or a challenge and those challenges tend to stick with long after the transit is over.
Saturn was moving fairly quickly in March. It passed McConnell’s natal Sun in a blur and moved deeper into Pisces. But then it turned retrograde at seven degree so Pisces That happened in June 2023. Since then McConnell had had two incidents (one in July and the latest just a couple of days ago) in which he appears to “freeze” in the midst of making a statement to the press.
