An Astrological Civil War (Part Five)ScarletWitchImage

Back in 2012, when the first Avengers movie came out I wrote a series of articles speculating on the Sun signs of that cast of superheroes. (Click on Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor and the Hulk to see those articles.) Now Marvel is getting ready to release “Captain America: Civil War” in which many of those characters, plus a bunch of new faces, battle one another over the question of submitting the Avengers to government control.

Being a Marvel comics fan from way back, I can’t resist the temptation to match those characters, and the Sun signs I’ve assigned them, against one another is an imaginary astrological battle. For this bout I’ve decided to pick two characters who, in the comic books, end up getting married. I figured no-holds-barred brawl could be considered a “meet cute” in the comic book world.

Scarlet Witch vs. the Vision

In the movies Scarlet Witches powers seem to hover between mind control and outright magic. (In the comics it was termed “hex” power.) As portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen in Marvel’s Avengers” The Age of UItron” her personality is also unpredictable, ranging from devilishly malicious to “little girl” vulnerable. There’s only one Sun sign that can encompass all of this mystery and volatility and that’s Pisces.

In the comics the Vision was a cyborg whose origins were way too complex to explain in one line. The movie version (as played by Paul Bettany) has a similarly complicated back story, though it might suffice to say that he speaks with the voice of Tony Stark’s computerized butler, Jarvis. Considering his unique origins and his thoroughly rational, though somewhat quirky, way of thinking, I’m calling Vision an Aquarius.

We don’t generally think of Pisces people as warriors, but once their emotions are stirred they can become amazingly combative. There are two things you can count on from Pisces in a fight. The first is that they will avoid a direct confrontation. Their preferred method of operation is the ambush, or the surprise attack. The second is that they don’t fight fair. Pisces people only fight when they’re really angry, and when they’re really angry the rules just don’t apply.

Aquarians, on the other hand, are famous for their ability to rise above fray and maintain a cool, intellectual distance. When it comes to strategy, this gives them a decided advantage. They are able to intellectually dissect their opponent’s motives and predict what he or she is going to do. And when it comes time to bring down the hammer, they can be cold and merciless.

So it would seem that these two combatants are equally matched, though in very different ways. However, I’m giving the advantage to the Scarlet Witch. The only thing that can foil Aquarian rationality is Pisces irrationality. The Pisces is always going to do something crazy that totally messes up those coolly made Aquarian plans. When that happens, Pisces emotionalism will typically overwhelm the Aquarian intellect.

So what’s your take on a battle between Pisces and Aquarius? Super powers aside, which sign do you think would win?
