An Astrological Civil War (Part Four)

Back in 2012, when the first Avengers movie came out I wrote a series of articles speculating on the Sun signs of that cast of superheroes. (Click on Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor and the Hulk to see those articles.) Now Marvel is getting ready to release “Captain America: Civil War” in which many of those characters, plus a bunch of new faces, battle one another over the question of submitting the Avengers to government control.

Being a Marvel comics fan from way back, I can’t resist the temptation to match those characters, and the Sun signs I’ve assigned them, against one another is an imaginary astrological battle.  In this entry I want to consider a matchup between Captain America’s old pal, Bucky Barnes or the Winter Soldier (played Sebastian Stan), and the newest Marvel character to enter the movie franchise, the Black Panther (played by Chadwick Boseman).

The Winter Soldier vs. the Black Panther

Poor ol’ Bucky Barnes has really been through it. First he somehow survives a deadly fall during World War II, only to captured, rebuilt with a mechanical arm, brainwashed and frozen by Hydra. Then he comes back as the most feared assassin in the world, which leads to a battle with his old friend, Steve Rogers (aka Captain America) and his ultimate rehabilitation. There’s only one Sun sign resilient enough to endure all these transformations, and that’s Scorpio.

I have no idea how the Black Panther will be portrayed in the movie, but in the comics he was T’Chala, king of the Wakanda tribe and ruler of an African nation that had grown rich because of its control of a extremely rare (and completely fictional) metal. With this regal heritage in mind, I’m thinking Leo for this character. After all, being a king, especially one with super powers, is a natural fit for Leo.

Any fight between a Scorpio and a Leo has got to be intense. These are two Fixed signs, one Water and one Fire, that have little in common except for phenomenal stubbornness and legendary strength of will. This will be a battle of attrition, with both parties taking significant hits, and continually come back with renewed strength and renewed rage.

Scorpio has the advantage of being more devious, and having greater self-control. No matter how intense the combat becomes, Scorpio will always hold a little bit of its strength in reserve, along with some surprise tactics designed to capitalize on the weaknesses of its opponent.

Leo’s ace in the hole is confidence. Leo says, “Give me your best shot. Pull out all of your dirty tricks. You can’t hurt me.” Of course, there’s a fine line between confidence and over-confidence. Leos are prone to underestimate their opponents while overestimating themselves. However, once a Leo has accepted a challenge, he or she will do just about anything to avoid admitting defeat.

In this fight I have to give the edge to Scorpio. Leos need to come out of a fight feeling noble and virtuous. Scorpio’s only concern is winning.  Scorpio’s willingness to sacrifice everything, even reputation, in order to achieve the goal they’ve set for themselves gives them the upper hand in just about any contest.

So, who would you pick in a fight between Scorpio and Leo. Super powers aside, who do you think will win this battle.
