An Astrological Civil War (Part Two)
Back in 2012, when the first Avengers movie came out I wrote a series of articles speculating on the Sun signs of that cast of superheroes. (Click on Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor and the Hulk to see those articles.) Now Marvel is getting ready to release “Captain America: Civil War” in which many of those characters, plus a bunch of new faces, battle one another over the question of submitting the Avengers to government control.
Being a Marvel comics fan from way back, I can’t resist the temptation to match those characters, and the Sun signs I’ve assigned them, against one another is an imaginary astrological battle. Last time I matched a Capricorn Captain America against a Gemini Iron Man. This time let’s look at characters closely associated with these two venerable heroes, Falcon and War Machine.
Falcon vs. War Machine.
The outstanding quality of the character called Falcon (played by Anthony Mackie) as he is presented in the Marvel movies is that he is a good friend. He’s a veteran just back from the Afghan war who has devoted himself to counseling other vets having trouble adjusting to civilian life. In this context, he meets Captain America and become his partner.
Libra is sign I would associated with Falcon. Libras are not only good friends, but they tend to idealize their companions, and who better to idolize than Captain America. Libras are also prone to identify themselves with ideas like fairness, justice and the public good.
War Machine (played by Don Cheadle) is an army officer who has been given the use of one of Tony Stark’s suits of armor. (He originally commandeered the suit, but that’s another story.) He’s sort of like Iron Man, without the witty repartee or the scientific genius. I see War Machine as a Taurus, a man with firm principles who prefers the security of working within a large organization with a secure pension plan like the U.S. military.
In terms of super powers, the advantage in this match up all goes to War Machine. His armor is loaded with weapons while all Falcon does is fly. But Libra’s tend to be resourceful people and, despite their reputation as peace-makers, it never safe to underestimate them in a fight.
The Libra tactic would be to avoid a one-on-one battle and lure the Taurus into a position in which the Libra could call on allies. Libra is an Air sign, so they can be crafty. They will postpone a confrontation until they think they have the upper hand.
Taurus enters a battle with head down and arms swinging. They count on their strength and resolve to win the contest. In a prolonged battle they always have the advantage because they can take more punishment and have more patience than anyone else on the field.
This one is hard to call. It’s a battle of Taurus brawn against Libra intelligence. In the end, however, I’d have to give the edge to Taurus. Neither of these Venus ruled signs likes to fight, but Taurus is apt to put up with the futility of it longer that Libra.
