Saturn and Jupiter Gotta GunGunImage

About a month ago I noted that the Uranus square to Pluto, about which so much has been written by astrologers (including me) over the past five years, was not quite over.  In fact, it was just short of being within one degree of separation during the first week of February.  I predicted that we would see a return to some of the crisis points that emerged during that transit's long and disruptive period of maximum influence. One thing I didn’t mention, however, was mass shooting.

Even though we are only in the second month of the year, there have already been 27 mass shooting in the U.S. in 2016. A few examples that made the national news, are the random killings perpetrated by an Uber drive in Kalamazoo, MI, a domestic violence situation that went terribly wrong in Belfair, WA and a workplace shooting in Hesston, KS.

Between 2011 and 2015, the period during which the square between Uranus and Pluto was dominant, the number of mass shooting in the United States spiked. More recently, however, the terrorist killings carried out in Paris and in San Bernardino redirected our attention to ISIS and Islamic extremists.

Now, once again, it has become clear that person most likely to shoot us is not the girl in the head scarf. It’s our disgruntled fellow employee who’s having marital problems. At first, I felt this increase in domestic mass shooting was just a product of the Uranus to Pluto square, but then I realized that Jupiter and Saturn have also gotten into the act.

Right now Saturn is at 15 degrees of Sagittarius, moving toward a trine to Uranus and a semi-sextile to Pluto. Jupiter is at 19 degrees of Virgo moving retrograde. It is trine Pluto and moving toward a quincunx with Uranus. Technically, the aspects listed here (except for the quincunx) are classified as positive, and we seen some evidence of this on the international scene. ISIS is losing ground in Iraq and there is cease fire in place in Syria. However, when it comes to how these aspects impact the horoscope of individuals the story is very different.

The fact that Jupiter and Saturn are near the same degrees as Uranus and Pluto means that if Uranus and/or Pluto is putting pressure on a particular point in a person’s horoscope, Jupiter and/or Saturn are likely doing the same thing. And, depending on the configuration, the aspects between that point and Saturn and/or Jupiter may be as stressful and the aspect to Uranus and/or Pluto.

What that means is that some people are dealing with a lot of challenging transits right now. For most of them that might mean a rough patch in their personal life or at work. One way or another, they’ll get through it and, in a few weeks, things will get better. But for a very few, who may have mental issues, or emotional issues, or substance issues, and a gun, the result is tragically different.

The good news is that by the end of April all of the aspects between these slow moving planets will be ending. Jupiter and Saturn will no longer be adding their influence to transits by Uranus and Pluto. Will there be more mass shootings? Of course, there will. As long as we have crazy people with access to guns, we will have mass shooting. But we should see a drop in the number of them after this point.
