Astrology and the 2015 Oscars: Reese Witherspoon
Reese Witherspoon has been nominated for her role in “Wild”, an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s autobiographical book. In the movie the chief characters are Witherspoon and nature. Nature, for some reason, did not get an Oscar nod.
Witherspoon won an Oscar in 2005 for her portrayal of June Carter in “Walk the Line”. Since then her career has been in something of a decline and her personal life has hit some major bumps, including a divorce and an arrest in Atlanta after she harassed a police officer during a traffic stop. Her performance in “Wild” represents a major comeback for this actress.
Witherspoon is an Aries by Sun sign with Mars, the ruler of Aries, in a close square with the Sun. Unless she was born in the very early morning or late at night, she will also have her Moon involved, making a square to her Sun and opposed to her Mars. (Click here to see a Witherspoon’s partial horoscope done for noon.) Considering this emphasis of Aries and Mars, displays of aggression are certainly not out of character for Witherspoon. She is a warrior.
Fortunately, Witherspoon seems to have been able to channel most of this Aries aggression into a spectacular work ethic. Even as child, Witherspoon was an over-achiever. An “A” student with a love of books, she also found time to be a cheerleader and to pursue acting lessons. She landed her first lead role in a movie at 14 (the years Saturn opposed her natal Saturn) and has worked steadily ever since. This year Witherspoon not only got attention as an actress. She was also the producer of another successful movie, “Gone Girl.”
Much like Julianne Moore, Witherspoon has some interesting short term aspects on Oscar night but no long term connections to support them. Mars and Venus will be conjunct on the same degree as Witherspoon’s Sun. That means they will also be square her Mars and possibly also square her Moon.
This is a good-news-bad-news kind of aspects. Depending on where the Sun is place in her complete horoscope (charted with a time of birth), Venus on the Sun could be a wonderful omen of success. Mars on the Sun, however, indicates anger and conflict, more like she would have to stop and punch someone out on her way to the podium.
Given what I can see with this incomplete horoscope, even if Witherspoon were to win the Academy Award this time (and avoid the urge to slug the presenter) it would not represent a major milestone in her professional or personal life. Of course, as I’ve pointed out in other articles, there a lot of things an astrologer cannot know in a chart without a time of birth.
On the other hand, if we take the fact that Witherspoon’s career seems to be on an upward swing as a indication that something positive is going on in her complete horoscope, then the odds of her winning a second Oscar increase. This is why I give Witherspoon a slight edge over Julianne Moore and the other contenders for Best Actress. I’m betting that some unknown astrological factor is pushing her to the top.
