Father Sun, Mother Moon (Part Six)McGrawPhilImage

In my book, “Father Sun, Mother Moon: Astrology’s Dynamic Duo”, I describe each of the 144 possible combinations of the twelve Sun signs and the twelve Moon signs. In this series of articles I am presenting examples of some of these combinations.

Today I’m going to write about Virgo, and the combination of a Virgo Sun and a Taurus Moon. My example is Dr. Phil McGraw. (Click here to see Phil McGraw’s horoscope.)

In “Father Sun, Mother Moon: Astrology’s Dynamic Duo” I write of Sun sign Virgo, “If you want to know what is really happening, ask a Virgo. Virgo helps us all get past the emotional blind spots and intellectual loops that warp our perception of reality.” This is essentially what Dr. Phil does on his television show. He helps people see past their blind spots and preconceptions and “get real”. In this sense, he is using his Virgo Sun in a positive way.

In my descriptions of the Sun signs I write about both “What we like” about that sign, and “What we don’t like”. With Virgo I have to mention their tendency toward pessimism. I write, “There are times when what Virgo sees as truthfulness seems to the rest of close something closer to cynicism and knee-jerk negativity.” At times Virgo get so caught up in analyzing the “real” that they forget about feelings. I also say of this sign, “What Virgo needs to learn is that hope is not an affliction.”

Dr. Phil has been criticized for his bullying tactics he sometimes displays on his show, and his lack of patience with other people’s emotion, but this is just a Virgo wanting to get down to the basics. Virgos are problem solvers, and as far as they are concerned, you can’t solve a problem until you stop crying about it and face the facts.

In many ways, McGraw’s Taurus Moon reinforces the realism of his Sun in Virgo. Of this combination I write, “You are a practical and strong-willed person whose view of the world is unclouded by either high-minded idealism or weepy emotionalism.” The main thing the Moon in Taurus adds to the Sun in Virgo is firmness and an unwillingness to back down.  “Once you’ve committed yourself to a course of action, you hate changing direction.”

This combination of Virgo flexibility and Taurus firmness of purpose has allowed McGraw to bounce back from a couple of failed endeavors and become a popular television personality. Earth signs are tough and double Earth signs are even tougher.

“Father Sun, Mother Moon: Astrology’s Dynamic Duo” contains much more about both Sun sign Virgos and the combination of the Sun in Virgo with the Moon in Taurus, along with all the other combinations of the Sun and Moon signs. Check out the ad on our front page for more information.
