Saturn Stirs Sarah PalinPalinImage

It wouldn’t be an election season without Sarah Palin rearing her pretty, bespectacled head. She made news the other day by hinting that she might run for public office in the future. Even though she lost her bid to become Vice President in 2008, and then gave up her position as Governor of Alaska to make money on Fox News, Palin is still popular with the Tea Party crowd. So, was her hint about getting back into the political ring a threat, or a promise?

For Palin’s chart I’m using a time of birth that was printed in the Sandpoint Magazine. (Click here to see the horoscope.) The ultimate source for this information was apparently a news item printed shortly after her birth. (I’ve read the article, but I haven’t seen the news item.) There are other times of birth out there, but none are backed by any official documents or sources.

This chart places both Uranus and Pluto in Palin’s First House, providing for a tendency to do the unexpected and a taste for power. Her Sun is in Aquarius, which seems odd to astrologers who associated this sign with liberal values. However, Aquarius is really more about shaking up the status quo, and for people of Palin’s generation, liberalism was the status quo.

Palin’s Sun is in a close conjunction with Mars and Saturn. The conjunction to Mars makes her a fighter, someone who enjoys physical activity and tough competition. The Saturn conjunction is a little more complex.

Saturn is the planet of tradition and orthodoxy. With this conjunction Palin identifies with the ideals of the past, and feels a need to connect with what she sees as a higher authority. Thus Palin becomes a kind of astrological hybrid: a rebellious Aquarian with disruptive Uranus on her Ascendant, who displays a fierce loyalty to a particular kind of Christian dogma and conservative political philosophy.

Aquarian are often charismatic, and Aquarians with Uranus on the Ascendant doubly so. They are also unpredictable. This is what makes her tease about running for office again meaningful. She’s a person her plays by her own rules, and with her own agenda.

A look at the where transiting Saturn (Saturn in the sky on that day) was when Palin make this remark shows is illuminating. The planet was near her I.C., and close to a square to her natal Saturn. It will complete those aspects in the next few weeks. In my book Saturn Cycles: Mapping the Changes in Your Life, I describe how actions performed when Saturn is in a crucial position like this have lasting ramifications in a person’s life. Saturn tells us that Palin’s remark about running for office again was not idle chatter.

Of course, that brings us the presidential election in 2016. There was a lot of speculation about Palin running in the Republican Primary in 2012, but she finally demurred. Is she going to go in a different direction in 2016? After all, most of the current contenders come from Congress, and nobody likes Congress these days. How’ll ‘bout a Hillary vs. Sarah fight for the presidency? That would be interesting.

What do you think about the chances of Sarah Palin running for office? Do you think she has her eye on the Republican nomination, or on a more modest office? We always appreciate your comments.
