The Big Square Returns
Over the past three years I have written frequently about the square aspect between transiting Uranus (Uranus in the sky right now) and transiting Pluto. During this time the aspect as been exact 4 times (5 if you count the near miss in June 2011.) Now it is within a degree once more, and this time it has brought friends.
What worries astrologers about this particular square between Uranus and Pluto is the fact that two other planets are involved. Jupiter is square Uranus and opposed to Pluto and, in late April, Mars will move into an opposition with Uranus and a square to Pluto and Jupiter. (Click here to see a diagram of this Grand Cross.)
This will form what astrologers call a Grand Cross, a rare astronomical configuration and one that has all sorts of dire implications. Though I’m not on the “end of the world” bandwagon that’s carried away some astrologers, I see ample evidence of the increased tension such a set up creates.
First we have the shooting at Fort Hood. When the Uranus to Pluto square was close in 2012 we had similar incidents. Strong aspects like this create a pervasive tension. People who are already damaged and on the edge, particularly people with planets in their horoscope impacted by transiting Uranus and Pluto, are given the impetus to act out. And, of course, we live in a time when a “lone gunman” can do horrific damage.
Then we have tension between nations. In the previous squares we saw this tension expressed through the possibility of the United States shutting down its government and reneging on it foreign debts (which would have placed a significant strain on the world economy.) This time the situation has changed. Now we have Putin and Russia making a land grab in the Ukraine.
Natural disasters, particularly earthquakes, tend to accompany heavy aspects like this Grand Cross. We’ve already had a couple of major earthquakes along the Pacific Rim. Some people are expect “the big one” any day.
So are we on the brink of World War III, another “Great Recession”, a major terrorist act or some other world shattering event? Personally, I’m betting that we find a way to stumble through this stressful period without putting an end to civilization as we know it. However, we have keep in mind that World War I, The Great Depression and World War II all started when a big aspect like the one we’re talking about here was nearly exact.
Uranus and Pluto are not through with us. After the Grand Cross in April, the square will be exact again in December 2014 and March 2015. So don’t decommission your bunker just yet. More big problems are on the way.
