Wendell and I support Kiva, a nonprofit organization that has found a way to let people, like you and us, help to make micro-loans to people in poverty around the world. We donate a portion of our profit through the sale of our book, "Father Sun, Mother Moon," to Kiva.

Kiva.org is set up so that people can lend as little as $25 (or more!) to someone who wants to help themselves out of poverty and create opportunity for themselves, just like this woman in Kenya (photo: Alison Carlman) This helps a person, for example, buy a cow to sell milk, buy fertilizer for crops or inventory for modest stores.

Since Kiva was founded in 2005 it has had 1,132,615 Kiva lenders with $546,660,225 in loans in 73 countries with a 98.93 percent repayment rate. Kiva works with microfinance institutions to make the loans to people without access to traditional banking systems. 100 percent of every dollar that people lend to Kiva goes directly towards funding loans. Kiva does not keep any money.

Us talking about Kiva in this post does not mean Kiva endorses our website or is affiliated with us. We just wanted to spread the love and tell you that Kiva exists...hopefully you will also be inspired to make a loan on Kiva. You can learn more at www.Kiva.org   Also, CNBC and John Larson did a special video piece on Kiva and we encourage you to watch it for more information.

Kiva is an example of something good happening on the Internet! (Thanks for reading! Linda and Wendell)
