Father Sun, Mother Moon and Lupita Nyong’o

To celebrate the launch of my new book, “Father Sun, Mother Moon: Astrology’s Dynamic Duo,” (see the ad on the right side of the home page,) I’m looking that the Sun/Moon combinations of some people in the news. Today we’re going to consider Lupita Nyong’o.

Lupita Nyong’o was born on March 1, 1983 and is a Pisces by Sun sign. (Click here to see a chart for her done for noon on her birthday.) Pisces is the most sensitive and emotional of the emotional Water signs. This sensitivity has obviously contributed to Nyong’o’s success as an actress. No sign is better at slipping inside someone else’s skin than Pisces, whether it be for the purpose playing a part in a movie or understanding exactly how another person feels.

Nyong’o has the Moon in Libra. The Moon is Libra is also geared toward understanding how other people feel, but on an intellectual level. People with the Moon in Libra are idealist. They look for fairness and equality in a world in which these commodities are often hard to find.

We saw an excellent expression of the combination of Pisces empathy and the Libran concern for social justice in the speech Nyong’o gave when she accepted her Oscar. She said, “It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is due to so much pain in someone else’s.” Nyong’o won the Academy Award for best supporting actress for her portrayal of a real life slave in “12 Years a Slave”.

People with this combination of Sun and Moon signs are dreamers. They are true believers who often fall in love with their ideals. In “Father Sun, Mother Moon,” I say of this combination, “It’s not that you are adverse to reality. It’s just that you’ve seen enough of it to know that there’s no place there for your special vision and high expectations.”

But Nyong’o speech gives us a hint that she is one Pisces with the Moon in Libra who willing to face the ugly realities of life. The person with this combination who can do this, who can use his or her idealism as a weapon rather than a shield, can become a person of extraordinary power. When the emotional intensity of Pisces is teamed with the activism of Libra in a positive way, great things can happen, and a lot of ugly realities can be pushed into oblivion.

Once again, thanks to everyone who has purchased a copy of "Father Sun, Mother Moon: Astrology’s Dynamic Duo." If you have any comments on the book, feel free to leave them here or, better yet, write a review on Amazon.
