The Astrology of the 2014 Oscar Race: Christian Bale

Christian Bale is known for the variety of characters he plays: from Batman to a drug addicted ex-boxer in The Fighter. This year he has been nominated for his role as an overweight con man in American Hustle. He won an Oscar in 2011 for Best Supporting Actor.

Again, we do not have a time of birth for Christian Bale so I am limited to a horoscope done for noon on his birthday. (Click here to see that chart.) One thing that is striking in this partial horoscope is the sextile between Bale’s Sun and his Neptune. If you have been following this series you will recall that several of our nominees had strong aspects between the Sun and Neptune. Filmmaking, with its capacity for creating illusionary worlds is very much connected with the symbolism of Neptune.

I wish I could say more about Bale’s horoscope because (full disclosure) he is one of my favorite actors. Unfortunately, the lack of a birth time makes this impossible. What I can say is that Bale is an Aquarius by Sun sign, and that his penchant for choosing unusual characters and playing them in surprising and unique ways, along with his single-minded, “method” approach to the craft of acting, are all exactly what one would expect from that sign.

Like Meryl Steep, just about any performance given by Christian Bale is going to be Oscar-worthy. Unfortunately, this year the stars are literally not aligned in his favor.

On Oscar night the sky is going to be particularly active. I already talked about the square between transiting Jupiter and transiting Uranus that will be close to exact that night. Also, transiting Venus will be in a tight square with transiting Mars. This last square will overlay the 90 degree aspect in Bale’s horoscope between Venus and Uranus.

This means that on that night Venus will be in a conjunction with Bales Venus (good) but in a square to his Uranus (bad). Meanwhile, Mars will be on top of Bales Uranus (accidents and surprises) and square to his Venus (conflict with loved ones). My guess is that Bale will be dealing with issues more pressing that carrying home hardware.

Bale’s secondary progressed horoscope is more positive, with his progressed Mercury making a trine aspect to both his natal Saturn and Uranus. This tells me that, intellectually, Bale is in a good place. He has achieved a degree of balance between restriction imposed by his role in society and his need for freedom and self-expression. If this is truth, what the heck does he need an Oscar for?

As usual, I have to say that with only a partial horoscope there is always the possibility that there are aspects and placements that I am unable to see. Still, given what I can see, I think that Bale’s chances of winning this year are slim.
