Will Johnny Depp Retire?johnnydepp

Actor Johnny Depp recently caused some consternation by hinting that he was thinking of retiring from acting. It’s hard for us regular working stiffs to comprehend anyone walking away from the kind of money Depp makes just for showing up in a movie. Also, people who are used to the kind of attention Depp gets in the world don’t generally step gracefully back in the shadows. Let’s take a look at his horoscope and see what’s up.

What’s going on in Depp’s horoscope right now is the opposition of transiting Neptune to his natal Mars. (Click here to see Depp’s horoscope.) This is an aspect he has been struggling with for a while. It was in effect back in June 2012 when Depp and Vanessa Paradis announced their break up. Neptune is in Depp’s 7th House of Marriage so this result was not surprising.

Neptune opposing Mars is an aspect for pursuing illusions or having your illusion revealed to you in rough and disturbing way. It is not an aspect of major change. Depp’s marriage, for example, had reportedly been on shaky ground for some time. This aspect only crumbled the illusion that it could last.

With this in mind, and the fact that Depp is a changeable Gemini by Sun sign, I wouldn’t give too much credence to the actor’s talk of retirement; except for one thing. In Nov. 2012, a few months after Depp and Paradis made their announcement; Saturn crossed the cusp of Depp’s 4th House, his I.C.

When Saturn crosses the bottom angle of the horoscope it is a time for deep thought and serious reassessment. Sometimes this reassessment is forced upon us by a major event. Other times, it is a quiet and personal process. Either way, there is a serious shift in our thinking and in our priorities. This is an aspect for coming home to what it is you really value and what really want you life to be about. I would guess that Depp began thinking about retirement during this passage.

In Feb. and again in Oct. 2014 Depp reaches another important point in his Saturn cycle. Transiting Saturn will square his natal Saturn. This would be an excellent time to make a substantial change both in the trajectory of his career and his personal life. The 4th and the 7th House will be in play so a new home and maybe even a new marriage could be the result.

Around this same time both Uranus and Pluto, which are still bouncing in and out of a tough 90 degree aspect, will be attacking Depp’s natal Moon. One of these planets will be afflicting his Moon during all of 2014 and 2015 and in Apr. 2014 and Jan. 2015 both will be aspecting it. This is going to be a terribly unsettled period for Depp. It will be a time during which he will feel vulnerable and isolated. Extreme behavior, accidents, scandal and a health crisis are all likely scenarios.

So, considering that retirement is already on his mind, the big changes that are set to impact Depp’s life during the next couple of years may make that option seem reasonable. Certainly, some change in his working status will be hard to avoid. But considering the emotional storms that are bound to come with Uranus square and Pluto
his Moon, this may be the least of Depp’s concerns.
