A Game of Signs: An Astrological look at Game of Thrones.RobbStark Image

Part Three

I’m a big fan of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire and the television (HBO) adaptation of those novels, Game of Thrones. I thought it might be fun to match some of the characters from this series with astrological signs. If you are not familiar with the books or the television series then proving my matches right or wrong might be an excellent reason to start watching and/or reading.

We’ve already looked at the patriarch and matriarch of the Stark family, Ned and Catelyn Stark. This time let’s consider their eldest son, Robb Stark.

Robb Stark has all the classic characteristics of Leo. After the death of his father, Robb calls his “banner men” to assemble. These hardened warriors, all much older than Robb, and they are reluctant to follow this untested youngster into battle but, by means of his courage, will and charisma, Robb wins them over. In the end, they not only join him in seeking revenge for his father, they declare Robb “King of the North” and put themselves in open rebellion against the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

Leos are always at their best when they are called upon to champion a cause in which they fervently believe. They are natural leaders who inspire others with their fiery enthusiasm.  Moreover, they possess unbreakable resolve and, once they begin a course of action, they will follow through regardless of the cost. Give a Leo the chance to be a hero and you will typically find him or her more than ready to fulfill that role.

Where Leo people struggle is in situations where the path of heroism is not clearly defined. Early in his campaign Robb agrees to marry the daughter of the lord of the strategically important the House of Frey. However, later he falls in love with another woman. Leo is a Fire sign so passion always takes precedence over plans. Robb put aside his deal with Lord Frey and marries the woman he loves.

The fact that this marriage endangers his cause doesn’t concern Robb. Leos don’t often apologize for their passions. As Robb sees it, he is still winning battles and seems to have his enemies on the run. Surely this relatively trivial matter with the Freys can be ironed out.

I can’t say much more about this matter without dropping spoilers for those watching the television series, but Robb’s hubris in this matter is typical of Leo. Leos have a way of behaving as if they are right even in circumstances in which they are clearly wrong. Sometimes the power of their presumption is such that they move ahead unscathed, and sometime, not so much.
