Following the Moon May 16, 2022GGAMoon

The chart for the Apr. 30 New Moon, with Jupiter on the angle, seemed to promise us something to cheer about and, for the minority of Americans who feel that abortion should be outlawed, that was the case. For everyone else, it was the conjunction of the Sun and Moon with disruptive Uranus that called the tune. (Click here to see the article and the chart.) The leak of Justice Alito’s draft opinion indicating that the Supreme Court was set to overturn Roe vs. Wade gave us both a Jupiterian effusion of idealism and an Uranian shock.

When I saw Venus conjunct Jupiter on Descendant of the New Moon chart for April 30 I thought of Jupiter as the Great Benefic, doling out goodies. Instead we got Jupiter, natural ruler of the Ninth House of courts and legal proceedings. Since Jupiter was conjunct Venus, that legal action involved women. The fact that Mercury, the ruler of the chart, was in the Ninth House reaffirmed this connection with the courts.

Of course, the Sun and Moon in that New Moon chart were not in an angular house. Therefore, the leak of the draft opinion has not resulted in any concrete changes. It’s just raised a lot of questions and stirred up a lot of anger and outrage. (Again, Sun and Moon conjunct Uranus.) The answers to those questions will have to wait at least until this summer, when the court is scheduled to issue a ruling, and then until the mid-term elections in November.

The chart for the Full Moon on May 16 (click on Full Moon to see the chart) is just as explosive as the New Moon chart was, but now the spotlight is on Saturn. Saturn rules the Ascendant of this horoscope and it forms a close square aspect with both the Sun and the Moon. The Sun and Moon are placed in angular house (in all the most commonly used quadrant house systems) which indicates that, instead of just raising questions, this chart could bring us immediate actions.

The fact that Saturn squares the Moon in the Tenth House indicates a lack of confidence in leadership. This could be caused by the inflation (in one house system Saturn is in the Second House of money) or it might be directed toward those Republican senators who stacked the Supreme Court with conservatives. Saturn is strongly placed in this chart and this disfavor will be heavy and relentless. This could pose a danger to some people in positions of authority.

At the same time, the Sun and Moon in this chart form what are commonly called “good” aspects to Mars, Neptune and Jupiter. These three planet are conjunct and, though Jupiter is moving out of range, the alignment of Mars and Neptune is rather tight. This aspect describes confused actions, but also actions directed toward a higher, transcendent goal. Hopefully, this energy will mollify, or at least diffuse, the darker influence of the Saturn’s square to the Sun and Moon.

The Sun and Moon in this chart also make benefic aspects to Pluto, which is strongly placed in the First House. However, even positive aspect to Pluto can be challenging. Pluto pulls back the covers that conceal what is deemed ugly and shameful. We could get some sobering revelations during the next couple of weeks involving both our leadership and the country as a whole.

Finally, this Full Moon chart features Uranus just a couple degrees off the IC. Normally, this would be the place I would start reading the chart. There’s so much going on in this lunation chart that Uranus on the angle is relegated the backbeat. But it’s still an insistent beat that promises us radical changes and shocking occurances. As I was writing this article I saw news of a racially motivated mass shooting in Buffalo, New York. I fear this could be just a foretaste of what this lunation period could bring us. I'm hoping otherwise, but there is no doubt that it will be an active two week period.
