A Tough Fight for Lindsey Graham

People born with the Sun in Cancer are usually hard to figure out, and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is no exception. He started out as one of the few Republican Senators who was willing to occasionally criticize the President. However, during the impeachment trial last January, Graham refused to even listen to the allegations made against Trump. Now it appears as if that inconsistency could cost Graham his seat.

Graham is locked in a tight race with Democratic challenger, Jamie Harrison. Polls show voters in South Carolina are evenly divided between the two, with Harrison now holding a very narrow lead. Harrison is also raising more money than Graham. Meanwhile, one of Fox News’ conservative commentators has come out against Graham and, even though Donald Trump endorsed Graham early on, it is unclear if that endorsement was a boon or a curse.

Since we do not have a complete horoscope for Graham (click here to see a chart done for noon on his date of birth) it's difficult get a clear astrological picture of his chances in this election. However, there a couple of interesting indicators. Transiting Saturn is opposed to the Mars and Uranus, which are conjunct in Cancer in Graham’s chart. Saturn often represents a bill come due. It exacts payment for the bad choices we’ve made in the past. This certainly tells us why Lindsey is having such a hard time. It could also be taken as an indication that those hard times will continue on election day.

The other transit that catches my eye is what we might call a reverse nodal return. The transiting North Node recently passed over Grahams natal South Node. Aspects involving the lunar nodes are tricky. They do their work on a spiritual, karmic level and their influence is not often seen in a person’s public life. However, considering how close this race is, fate could be playing a role.

We also don’t have a time of birth for Jamie Harrison (Click on Jamie Harrison to see a chart done for noon on his date of birth.) But even with a time of birth, we can see that it is a strong chart, with the Sun in Aquarius in a grand trine with Mars and Pluto. Harrison is an active and resilient person. The tougher the fight, the better he likes it. Unfortunately, without a time of birth, the transits to his chart are also unclear or, more to the point, contradictory.

On the one hand, Pluto is conjunct Harrison’s natal Mercury. This tells us that, right now, Harrison is feeling pressure and this pressure could effect his ability to deliver the message he wants to deliver. This is not necessarily a negative indicator but much depends on how Harrison views and handles the pressure he is feeling.

At the same time, transiting Uranus is currently opposed to Harrison’s natal Uranus. This tells us that he should expect a startling change in his circumstances. A Senate seat might be that change. Also, transiting Jupiter is now square Harrison’s natal Jupiter. This aspect will be separating by election day, but still positive indicator, describing enthusiasm and optimism.

Judging from what I can see in these partial horoscopes, I’d have to give the edge to Harrison in this race, but with the caveat that there is much that I cannot see. In any case, Lindsey Graham is in a difficult situation.
