Following the Moon: July 20, 2020

In my analysis of the Full Moon for July 5 (click here to see the article and the chart) I put too much emphasis on Uranus. I expected lots of surprises but what this past lunation period seems to have given us was just more of the same. The only surprises were the misguided efforts by people in the administration to discredit Dr. James Fauci and the strange incidents in Portland, Or., in which federal officers in unmarked cars swooped in and detained Black Lives Matter protesters without notifying local officials.

The real catalyst in the July 5 chart was Mercury, which was on the I.C. and square Mars (in the Twelfth House.) I had expected this to brings us attacks on the media, but it was Mercury’s rulership over information that seems to have predominated. In a move that didn’t seem to get a lot of attention, hospitals were told to send their reports and statistics on the novel coronavirus to the Dept. of Health and Human Services rather than to the CDC. This gives the White House more control over how that information is disseminated and “spun.” Mercury on the cusp of the Fourth House is about keeping information close to home, while the placement of Mars on the Twelfth signifies secrets. President Trump has been struggling to drown out concern over spiking COVID-19 numbers with his own narrative. This shift in the flow of information could help him do that.

The New Moon chart for July 20 has an ominous look. (Click on New Moon to see the chart.) We have the Sun and Moon in Cancer in the Ninth House, opposed to Pluto and Saturn in Capricorn. This could indicate some ruling from the courts that would be particularly weighty. It could also describe hardened and intransient opinions with regard to education or public policy. Continued debate over the opening of school is likely during the next two weeks and this chart tells us that it is going to be particularly fiery (Mercury in the Ninth square Mars) and that people in positions of authority are going to be exerting that authority to the fullest.

Obviously, in this period of crisis, when we are all dancing to the tune of a virus that has no concern for our political opinions, a furthering of the partisan divide is not advisable. However, this seems to be what this chart is showing us. The chart could also be read as an indicator that the current upward trend in COVID-19 infections, hospitalizations and deaths is going to increase. Another concern (since the Ninth House is associated with the courts) is the health of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who recently announced that her cancer has returned.

I’ve searched this New Moon chart for some indicator of good news and have pretty much struck out. However, all is not lost. In this lunation chart the Sun and Moon are in cadent house. This typically means that issues immerging during the next two week period are not going to be resolved. In other words, it’s likely that there will be a lot of inflammatory chatter and pompous rhetoric but very little purposeful action.
