Are We Going to War With Iran?iran flag

In my last “Following the Moon” entry I had predicted that the tension between the U.S. and Iran would continue and that there was a possibility of war. (Click here to see that article.) I also wrote that positive aspects in that lunation chart indicated that the push toward war could be diverted. President Trump’s last minute cancelation of a planned air strike on Iran seems to follow these predictions.

Of course, this does not in anyway represent a solution to our problems with Iran. The Iranians are making noises about restarting their nuclear program and their aggressive posturing continues. This sent me on a search for a horoscope of the Islamic Republic. I found one set for Apr. 1, 1979 at 3PM in Tehran. The date is confirmed by Wikipedia but I’m not sure where the time came from. Still, the chart offers us some interesting information. (Click on Islamic Republic of Iran to see the chart.)

The first thing I did with this chart was to check it against the beginning of the Iran-Iraq war on Feb. 22, 1980. On that date transiting Saturn was exactly opposed to Mars in the Iran chart and close to an opposition to Mercury in that chart. At the same time, transiting Jupiter and Mars, which were conjunct in Virgo, formed a square to Iran’s Moon. This convinced me that it was a valid horoscope.

So, what’s happening now in this chart? Unfortunately, transiting Saturn is once again active. It is currently in a square aspect to Pluto in the Iranian chart. The transiting Nodes of the Moon are also at 90 degrees of Iran’s Pluto. I see this as putting pressure on the power structure within Iran. The country has been suffering under various economic sanctions. Their leadership may feel that they have been backed into a corner and have nothing to lose.

This is bad, but what really makes the situation worrisome is the historic connection between transiting Saturn and transiting Pluto and war. These two planets were in a conjunction during the first weeks of World War I. They were in a square aspect at the beginning or World War II and the were near (separated by two degrees) an opposition on Sept. 11, 2001. At this time, along with being square Iran’s Pluto, Saturn is nearing a conjunction with transiting Pluto. The aspect will not complete until Jan. 2020 and right now it is at four degrees of separation.

The good news is that Saturn is currently moving retrograde away from it’s square to Iran’s Pluto and it’s conjunction with transiting Pluto. This makes me think that we’re going to see stalemate between the U.S. and the government of Iran. Properly handled, this stalemate could represent a chance for the two countries to step back from the current war-like impasse. If not, then we will see a serious resurgence of this tension in December 2019, when Saturn once again squares the Iranian Pluto and in Jan. 2020, when transiting Saturn conjuncts transiting Pluto and opposes Mercury in the Sibly chart for the U.S. Let’s hope for the former.
