The Contenders: Michael Bennet

The field of contenders for the Democratic nomination has become so crowded that we’ve had a couple of prospective candidates back away. However, Colorado Senator Michael Bennet is a Sagittarian by Sun sign, and where other people fear to tread, Sagittarians go gleefully. (Click on Michael Bennet to see a chart done for noon on his date of birth.)

Bennet has served in the Senate since 2009. Before that he worked for an investment company, though his interest in politics is long standing. Over the years, Bennet has worked on the campaigns of several Democrats. His views lean toward the center and, in terms of his generational placement, Bennet is from the Neptune in Scorpio, Pluto in Virgo group. (Click here to see my article on the generational breakdown of the Democratic candidates.)

On May 2, when Bennet announced this candidacy, transiting Jupiter was on the South Node of the Moon in his natal chart. This might be taken to indicate that Bennet is fulfilling some karmic purpose by throwing his hat into the ring. However, it’s going to take a lot of positive karma make up for Bennet’s lack of name recognition outside his home state.

Also, on the May 2, transiting Mercury was square Bennet’s natal Pluto. Pluto represents large forces beyond our control and it tends to belittle Mercury’s desire to communicate. Bennet’s announcement was greeted by groans in some quarters and shrugs in others. Bill Maher’s comment may have summed up the reaction. Maher proposed that Bennet’s campaign slogan should be “Google Me.”

Another interesting aspect going on in Bennet’s chart on May 2 and right now is the trine by transiting Neptune to his natal Neptune. Since we don’t have a complete chart for Bennet, this aspect is hard to read, but Neptune is associated with both spiritual transcendence and delusional aspirations.

I really can’t say which of these apply in the case of Michael Bennet, but this Neptune aspect will return in his chart in March 2020 and again in November 2020. Since we do not have a time of birth for Bennet there are many things about this chart that we cannot see. But among the things we can see in this partial horoscope, Neptune’s trine to its place in his natal chart is going to be the dominant factor in Bennet’s life for the next year and a half. That might be good for his spiritual development, but it doesn’t bode well for his presidential campaign.
