Ever since he reconsidered his previous claim to have no presidential ambitions, Congressman and former candidate for Senate, Beto O’Rourke, has become a rising star among Democrats hoping to unseat Donald Trump in 2020. Recent polls show him narrowly ahead of the previous front-runner, Joe Biden. So let’s take a look at O’Rourke’s horoscope to see what’s going on.

Of course, we don’t have a time of birth for Congressman O’Rourke (click on Beto O’Rourke to see a horoscope done for noon on his date of birth) but this partial chart gives us some interesting details. O’Rourke is a Libra by Sun sign with his Moon in Taurus. This puts both his Sun and Moon in signs ruled by Venus, a very friendly combination.

In my book “Father Sun, Mother Moon: Astrology’s Dynamic Duo” I say this about the Sun in Libra with the Moon in Taurus: “You are an idealist who never loses contact with the practical and the real.” A democrat from Texas has to mix his liberalism with a clear awareness of political realities. It was easy for O’Rourke to be to the left of Ted Cruz, but he’s probably going to be to the right of many of the people considered to be in the Democratic field at present.

I also say about this combination of Sun and Moon signs: “You are at ease in almost any social situation and always appear patient and composed. Of course, you may not always feel that way but you are a person who knows that image has a way of becoming reality. Present a calm and pleasing face to the world and the world will usually respond in kind.” One reason O’Rourke sprang to nationwide popularity is that he always presents such a positive, unflappable image. He looks and sounds good on TV.

O’Rourke’s Sun is square Jupiter. You might expect to find this sort of aspect in any politician’s chart. It expands the ego and self-confidence. It makes it easy for a person to brag on him or herself. Since the aspect is a square there might be a tendency to carry this self-confidence too far, the Sun is also conjunct Pluto, which keeps things in perspective and adds substance and depth to the personality.

Another interesting thing about O’Rourke’s chart is the conjunction of Mars and Pluto. I’ve called aspects between Mars and Pluto “monster” aspects because they appear so often in the horoscopes of mass killers and other bad people (like Harry Weinstein, Timothy McVeigh and Ted Bundy,) but in the right horoscope this conjunction also describes toughness and the ability to rise above adversity. That’s why you also find Mar-to-Pluto aspects in the horoscopes of people like Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton and Mohandas Gandhi.

Since we do not have a complete horoscope, it is impossible to make an assessment of O’Rourke’s chances of getting the Democratic nomination in 2020. He seems to be the darling of the moment, but things change and a lot of things can (and will) happen before we get a chance to vote for anyone. However, right now O’Rourke’s secondary progressed Sun is moving into a square to his natal Venus. This explains his continued popularity despite the fact that he lost the election to Cruz. That aspect will continue through 2019 and into 2020. With the right transits to go with it, O’Rourke might be able to ride his “darling” status all the way to the White House.
