Alexandria Ocasio-CortezOcasio CortezImage

For a long time I have been saying that it was the young people from the Neptune in Capricorn and Aquarius generations who were going to save us. Now we have a member of the former who seems to be on her way to congress. 28-year-old Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez surprised everyone by winning the democratic primary in the 14th congressional district of New York. Since the district is heavily democratic, she is expected to be on her way to the House of Representatives this fall.

A partial horoscope for Ocasio-Cortez (click on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to see a chart done for noon on her date of birth) reveals that she has Uranus and Saturn in Capricorn along with Neptune. Neptune is the broader generational planet. It remains is a sign for about 14 years. Uranus, which transits a sign in about 7 years, represents a “mini-generation”, while Saturn, which takes two and a half years to pass through a sign, gives us a “micro-generation.” Ocasio-Cortez (along with everyone born in 1989 and 1990) is part of micro-generation with three layers of Capricorn.

The sign occupied by Neptune show us the dreams, hopes and fantasies of a generation. Of course, not everyone born in a Neptune generation will follow the trend set by this generational influence, but enough will to give that generational group a particular character. As that generation advances in age they will impose that character on pop culture, social trends and political movements.

The reason I have so much confidence in the Neptune in Capricorn generation is that their dream, their fantasyland, is a world that makes sense. They are not driven by ideology. They don’t care about dogma or theories. They are only interested is what works. After the baby-boomers with Neptune in Libra (fighting over an unreachable ideal of fairness) and Neptune in Scorpio (looking at the world as something to fear) and the Gen Xers with Neptune in Sagittarius (hiding behind various belief systems) the no-nonsense view of a Neptune in Capricorn generation represents a breath of fresh air.

Of course, there are many things in Ocasio-Cortez’s ultra-liberal agenda that will not seem practical to other people, even people from the Neptune in Capricorn generation, but that’s okay. The point is to make these ideas part of the conversation. Once we do this and once we remove party dogma and economic fairy stories we can start working toward an approach that actual does what government is supposed to do: serve the people.

It also should be noted that Ocasio-Cortez is currently experiencing an important Saturn Cycle aspect. Transiting Saturn moved into a conjunction with her natal Saturn in March and May of this years. This aspect typically coincides with the acceptance of full “adult” responsibilities. Some people get married. Some buy a house or have a kid. Ocasio-Cortez ran for congress. Apparently, her definition of what an “adult” should be is few steps ahead of most of us. Saturn will make its final contact with its natal place in Dec. 2018, about the time she will probably be getting ready to move to Washington D.C.
