McConnellImageTrump Vs. Mitch McConnell

During his campaign Donald Trump promised to “drain the swamp” in Washington D.C. His supporters heard this and thought he intended to curtail lobbyists and big business donors who were gumming up our democracy. But Trump has done nothing about these folks. In fact, he appointed several to his Cabinet. Instead, Trump seems to have set his sights on draining Congress, starting with two of its leaders, Majority Leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan.

I’ve run a double chart with Trump’s in the middle and a partial horoscope (without a time of birth) for Mitch McConnell on the outside (click here to see this double chart) just to see what’s going on.

The first thing you notice is the fact that McConnell’s Sun is close to Trump’s Descendant. This is typically a strong indicator of compatibility. Unlike Ryan and several other prominent Republican’s, McConnell uttered nary a word against Trump during the campaign. By all appearance, he welcomed Trump’s win in November, probably because he felt that this was a president that he could manipulate.

Of course, that has not been the case, and the other connections between these two charts tell us why. First of all, McConnell’s Uranus forms a square to Trump’s Mars. This is something that many people born around the same date as McConnell would share. However, in McConnell’s chart the square is nearly exact. This is definitely an aspect of conflict. To Trump, who has gotten by throughout his life with a combination of bombast and luck, the Machiavellian maneuvering that is McConnell’s trademark is a mystery, a mystery that the President regards as dangerous and potentially disruptive to his agenda.

This conflict is further brought out by the quincunx between McConnell’s Mars and Saturn conjunction and Trump’s Moon. The Senator’s Mars and Saturn is also sextile Trump’s Sun. I don’t know where this conjunction is placed in McConnell’s horoscope, but it is obviously an important part of his personality and of the pragmatic way he conducts his business. The quincunx is an aspect of misunderstanding and things unknown. Even though it is not a strong aspect, it further illustrates the degree to which these two men don’t “get” one another.

Finally we have an opposition between Trump’s Pluto and McConnell’s Mercury. This aspect describes Trump’s attempt to bully McConnell, however one look at McConnell tells you that this is a little guy who learned how to deal with being bullied a long time ago. He’s not likely to be intimidated by Trump’s rhetoric. McConnell has been at this game a lot longer than Trump and he’s confident he can handle his erratic president. Besides, McConnell is not up for reelection until 2020.

Even though McConnell is probably feeling relatively safe, he might want to talk to an astrology about the recent eclipse. The eclipse on the 21st was opposite McConnell’s natal Sun. This aspect indicates that McConnell might be more vulnerable than he thinks, particularly when other planets move across the degree of the eclipse, or his natal Sun. The result could be health issues, but a political crisis is not out of the question. Given the extent to which this eclipse (and the President’s remarks on Charlottesville) damaged Trump’s political standing, this could be a fight in which both contenders come out losers.

In my next entry I will do a similar comparison between the horoscope of the President and Paul Ryan.
