Saturn Square Neptune Becomes Pitt Square JolieJolie image

The news that Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt has got a lot of astrologers looking at their horoscopes. What strike me is that both are being strongly impacted by the current square between transiting Saturn and transiting Neptune. The influence of this aspect has been evident in our politics for quite a while. Now it seems to have invaded popular culture.

In the horoscope of Angelina Jolie Neptune is square her natal Neptune (which is in the 5th House of children) while Saturn is conjunct that planet. In Pitt’s chart Neptune is opposed to his natal Uranus while Saturn is in his 1st House square that planet. (Click on Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to see their charts with today’s transits in the outer circle.)

In Jolie’s chart Neptune is trine her natal Mars. So her Mars (ruling anger and action) is also being impacted by the Saturn to Neptune square. In Pitt’s chart Uranus is trine Mercury (ruling information an problem-solving), so the same thing applies to his Mercury.

Neptune represents confusion and muddled thinking. It is also associated with glamour, and at a higher level, compassion. Saturn is about restriction, authority and the law. The connection between Saturn and a divorce are obvious, but having Neptune in the mix indicates that matters are still in flux and unpredictable. Right now, what Neptune seems to be contributing is glamour, but that can change as time goes on.

For this reason I think that there is going to be more information coming out about this, and that opinion are bound to change. Clarity, of any sort, is not going to happen. The divorce proceedings are going to be messy, muddled and full of contradictions.
