An Astrological Look at Chris Christie
Chris Christie’s reelection as governor of New Jersey has a lot of people talking about him as a possible contender for the Republican nomination for president in 2016. Such a nomination would have to get by the right wing of that party, which has not shown much love for Christie thus far, but the hit the Tea Party folks took after the government shutdown seems to give this more moderate Republican a fighting chance.
We do not have a time of birth for Christie and that limits any reading of his chart, but what we can see gives us a clear indication of why he has proven to such a popular and effective governor. (Click here to see a horoscope charted for noon.) Christie has the Sun in Virgo conjunct Pluto and his Mars is in a close sextile to Pluto. This is a man who knows how to use power. He is not someone who gets “drunk” on power or seeks to exploit power for its own sake. For him power only matters when it is being used in a practical way to solve problems.
It is interesting that what Christie emphasized in his victory speech (which some are calling the kickoff speech for his next campaign) was his ability to “get the job done.” Nothing could be more in keeping with a Virgo Sun sign. Virgos are not swayed by doctrine or high-minded principles. They are flexible people who are willing to compromise, willing to change direction, willing to do whatever it takes to get results.
So, from the little we can see with this solar chart, it looks like Christie could be a strong candidate in 2016. However, there are some astrological factors that do not favor his nomination. In his secondary progressed chart the Sun will be square Christie’s natal Saturn in 2016. This indicates an impediment, something blocking the expression of his ego. This could be a political issue, or it could be something more personal, such as a health crisis or some sort of scandal. In any case, this aspect tells us the Christie will have to overcome a major obstacle in order to secure the nomination.
At the same time that this secondary progressed aspect will be going on, transiting Saturn (Saturn in the sky in 2016) will be square Christie’s natal Sun. The aspect will be exact in January (just in time for the first primaries), May (crunch time for the primary season) and in October (just before the election). So, Christie will be facing this same debilitating Sun/Saturn pattern on two fronts in his horoscope. It doesn’t bode well.
I would be able to say more, and maybe be a little more hopeful, if we had a time of birth for Christie. Someone needs to start a campaign accusing the Governor of being born in Kenya so he would have to produce his birth certificate. Okay, how’ll about Canada.
So what do you think about the possibility of Chris Christie running for president. Will it happen? And if it does, what will it do to the Republican Party?
